Ascend FS12T Fishing Kayak Review
If you are just getting into kayak fishing, then this is the boat for you. The amount of neat fishing features that are available in the Ascend FS12T Fishing Kayak for the price is incredible.
The first thing you notice about the Ascend FS12T kayak is is sleek hull. This hull is great for gliding through the water and especially for cutting through waves. I have taken this kayak out in the ocean many times and am always impressed on how well it can handle swells. With just a few paddles I can easily get this kayak up to speed and once it is crusing it tracks very well. One down-side of this hull-design is stability, due to the heavy-V shape of the hull it does tend to get a bit tippy if you try to stand up. Accessing your gear that is stashed in the storage areas can get a bit dicey, after a while you get the hang of it though. The FS12T is also a bit on the heavy side, it is manageable with one person but I opted to purchase the Ascend Kayak Cart from BassProShops as well.
The features that this kayak is crammed with is the real selling point to me. The cockpit includes a very plush and padded seat which you can easily sit and paddle on for the entire day. Behind the cockpit is a large storage-area and 2 additional rod holders. I like to leave my extra rod on the troll when I am paddling to my next fishing spot. You never know what you might catch! In the bow there is another large dry storage area, I usually just put my lifejacket and first-aid kit up there, but you could fit camping equipment or a small cooler as well. The included front-mounted rod holder is nice and swivels 360 degrees, it does not get in the way while paddling.
In conclusion I believe that the Ascend FS12T Kayak is a great introductory kayak for anyone looking to get into the sport of kayak fishing. It has a few draw-backs but at the price-point ($599, when I wrote this review) and with the features included it cannot be matched by any other kayak in the industry.
